Karlovic's performances on clay are under mediocre, because his service based game is not suited to the slow conditions that the clay surface offeres. The power from his service is diminueted and along with it , a big part of his game.He is not used to play long rallies , and on clay this is essential. They have met 1 time already , Karlovic won , it was in Houston but the surface there is a hybrid betweet clay and hard, being a lot faster than usual clay courts. It should be said that Karlovic managed to beat Grosjean last week on clay.
Montanes should have a big advantace on clay , and with the home crowd supporting him, he should win.

One of the best bets of the day , considering how Giquel performed in Monte Carlo.He lost 6-0 the first set against Nieminem then seemed to have recovered in the second but lost it 6-4. His serve did not function , and had more chances on return..His victories against Del Potro and Hrbaty can't be taken into consideration because Del Potro is not a claycourter and Hrbaty still hasn;t recovered from the injury that kept him away.Bolelli defeated Kohlschreiber, Chela and Schukin in the last weeks and seems to be feeling good playing on clay, although his game is more suited to faster surfaces.

Davydenko played horrible all week long. Yesterday , along with Andreev managed to make 115 unfforced errors, above 50% of the total number of points played.Andreev could have easily won in the third set, being a break up , but did not manage to keep his advantage. Had a mental weakness period in the last game, and lost , after being 40-0 up.
Davydenko ' s service had incredible low percentage, in the second set loosing his service 4 times. He only won 55% of his first serve points.
Nadal was impressive in the first set against Ferrer, and in the second managed to come back from a break down. Ferrer made a lot of easy points on Nadal's forehand, but was not strong enough to win the second.
Taking this into consideration Nadal should have no problem with Davydenko, and the under seems a normal choice, in a revange game for Nadal , after the Miami defeat.

Haase is young and talented, also has an excellent serve and performs decent from the back of the court.Does not have very much variation in his game, and his second serve is quite weak comparative with his first one.
They have met already in 2007, Safin won in 3 sets (details here)I think today Safin will win easily, taking into consideration he bothered winning against Ferrero.Also he has some chances of winning this tournament, his strongest opponents being Almagro and Ferrer.

We have today a challenge between 2 different players, young Hartfield who enjoys clay a lot and Capdeville , who is almost decent both on clay and hard court. Head to head record is 0-1, back in 2005 Hartfield won on hard court in the Leon Challenger.
Hartfied played qualies here,defeating Skugor in 3 tricky sets.
Capdeville lost in the Davis last weekend, on clay, against Niemeyer.Also lost to Minar and Hernych in the last 3 weeks.
Hartfield defeated Massu and lost to Arguello in 2 tie break sets as part of this year clay season.Has a strong serve and decent groundstrokes and will get plenty of chances on Capdeville's second serve.

Not an easy match, but Hartfield is favourite.

Odds are great here for Massu. Querrey does not cope well with clay, he has lost in 5 of his last 8 first round tournaments on clay, losing in the second round in the other 3 appearances.
They have never met again in the professional tour,and even though Querrey is the 4th seed here at Houston, my money will go with the chilean.
Querrey is 3-8 on clay in his carrer, while Massu enjoys playing on clay, being 173-111.
Massu was horrible throughout this start of the season, but I expect things to change.
Moderate odds , because it's the start of the clay season and anything can happen.

Federer is a banker tonight in my point of view.He raised his game level a lot withAcasuso, and against Roddick he will do the same. Roddick struggled all week , against challenger level players Troicki and Minar. Against Benneteau was a little better, but far from the form he showed in Dubai.
This will be a two set game, but the odds are not worth playing.
