Robert Kendrick -Rajeev Ram

Robert Kendrick -Rajeev Ram :Robert Kendrick @1.77 unibet

Outstanding odds here, for the defending champion of the Dallas Challenger. He feels good here at Dallas and is yet to loose a set this year here. Everybody remembers last year whne he had a 2-0 lead against Nadal , but failed to win. He has some potential and could confirm in the next years.
Here is is declaration after the first rounf straight sets victory agaisnt Delgado 7-6 7-5. "I hit a big serve when I was down 2-0 in the tie-breaker," "That threw him off. Then I smoked a forehand return down the middle and I rolled from there."He seems to be enjoying playing here, and Ram , mainly a doubles player , can't hurt him so much. Ram had some excellent results along with Erlich in doubles , but is still far from a succes in singles.

Carlos Berlocq - Luis Horna

Carlos Berlocq - Luis Horna :Horna 2-0@2.50 sportingbet

I have underestimated Horna against Calleri, Horna dominated all match long, with excelent first serve percentage, and decent on his second serve. Even though there were roumors Calleri had a slight injury , Horna deserves all the credit for the victory. Berlocq managed something similar, winning in straight sets agasint a poor Devilder. But he had only 47 % first serve percentage. Horna will use this in his advantage and will create a lot of break poits oportunities.Like I said Horna won 85 % of his first serve , with a 72% first serve percentage. If he continues serving like this Berlocq doesn't stand a chance.

Juan Pablo Brzezicki v Marcel Granollers-Pujol

Juan Pablo Brzezicki v Marcel Granollers-Pujol :Pujol @1.80 bet365

Not much to say because I haven't seen any of these players in action, but Pujol should have the edge today. My bet is based on the recent form of the players and their results.Brzezicki managed to make un upset in the first day of the tournamanet , defeating clay courter Hernandez , but lost in the first round of the Australian Open against Warburg. Also won 3 matches against some top 400+ players , but this is irelevant. Pujol won 3 matches in the AO qualies and another 3 on this qualies.Defeated on the road Galvani , Kunitsyn , Pashanski.
Very probable a 3 sets match, but I choose Pujol to win. Mediun stakes , because of the low personal information of the players.

Carlos Berlocq - Nicolas Devilder

Carlos Berlocq - Nicolas Devilder :Berlocq 2-0@2.18betfair

h2h 1-0 Berlocq won in 2005 on clay in two sets. If we take that into consideration and we add that this year Devilder won only 2 matches involving two 230+ players, while Berlocq lost a Challenger final against Alves odds on Devilder seem value. Moreover , Berlocq managed to keep close to in form Monaco at the Australian Open loosing 7-6 7-5 6-1.His biggest problem remains his second serve , which is very weak ,managing to win only 39% on second serve against Berlocq.
I trust Berlocq to finish this in two and the odds please me.

Gaston Gaudio -Santiago Ventura

Gaston Gaudio -Santiago Ventura :Ventura 2-0@2.1 betfair

Everybody remembers Gaudio as the former Rolland Garros winner , but those days are way over. He isn't even mediocre now, loosing match after match , without even giving a fight. He got a wildcard here, after loosing 6-3 6-0 in front of a Japonnese top 250+ player. There are some roumors he was injured, but if that was the case , he would heve retired. Ventura is no special thing , but at least was constant in the last period and managed to win some challengers, all on clay.Lost to Juan Del Potro in 3 sets at Auatralian Open but managed to get a set in front of the Tipsarevic , who managed to challenge all mighty Federer.
An intersting thing is that Gaudio only managed to win 5 matches in 2006 against players in top 100.

If the players continue like they did in the last period , the result should be clear.

Djokovic N. v Tsonga J.-W

Djokovic N. v Tsonga J.-W :[More Double Faults]Djokovic N. -2.5 @1.85 gamebookers

Djokovic is on top of the stats for the biggest number of double faults in the tournament , with 23 in 6 matches.Tsonga has 6 double faults in the first match agaisnt Murray and a total of 6 in the other 4 matches he had, 1 with Nadal , Youzhny and Garcia Lopez and 2 with Gasquet. Djokovic was saved a lot of times in the semifinal by his string serve, saving even 2 set points, forcing on the second serve, but throughout the hole match made 6 double fauts. Some will say this is a flip flop bet , but the research is on my side , and if the two players continue on the track they have gone all the tournament , the handicap should not be enough.

Maria Sharapova - Ana Ivanovic

Maria Sharapova - Ana Ivanovic :[More Double Faults] :Sharapova@1.90 gamebookers

Gamebookers are thinking this wrong. Sharapova makes a lot of double faults in important matches, trying to use the most of his serve.
The tournament statistics says that Sharapova had 14 double faults in 6 matches , while Ivanovic had only 12. I did not managed to get the head to head statistic to find out the double fault statistic , but looking at the mathes until now , and taking into consideration all the games I've watched involving Sharapova , I think that the odds are set wrong.Sharapova always presures her second serve , and this is why she makes a lot of errors.
Ivanovic is decent , and excluding the posibility that she suffers a breakdown, she should be fine.

Odds value,
More double faults Sharapova @1.90 gamebookers

Maria Sharapova - Ana Ivanovic

Maria Sharapova - Ana Ivanovic [1st Serve %] :Ivanovic A. + 6.5% [1st Serve %]@1.75

I don't usually bet on women, but this odds are to good to stay away from. Sharapova had a perfect performance till now , winning all the matches in straight sets. Even though the "paper"
says that Sharapova will have an easy match, the research I've made states that the odds offered by gamebookers are value.
Women are very unpredictable , and statistic is almost irelevant.
But,Sharapova had a 55% first serve percentage against Jankovic, 65 against Henin ,56 against Dementieva ,66 against Vesnina, 67 agaisnt Devenport.
Ivanovic had a 75 first serve percentage agasint Garbin, 66 against Srebotnik ,61 against Wozniascki,56 agasint Williams.

Roger Federer -Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer -Novak Djokovic :Djokovic N. +5.5% [1st Serve %] @1.90 gamebookers

Another statistical based bet, involving the first serve percentage. Made some research in this field, and found out that Federer defeated Djokovic in this sector of the game , only once in their 6 encounters (the last one, Us open 2007).Other games look like this 67-65 ( ATP Masters Series Canada),62-64 (Dubai) , 62-61 (Australian Open) 53-64 (ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo).
I've observed how they performed until this stage of the competition , and even if they had no problems winning their matches(except Federer with Tipsarevic), their first serve percentage was always somewhere between 60-65 % percent.
I expekt a well balanced game, and even if Federer is more reliable on serve , the difference should not be more than 5 % in his favour. The odds are good, so I will take

GICQUEL M./SANTORO F ERLICH J./RAM A.

GICQUEL M./SANTORO vs ERLICH J./RAM A. :ERLICH J./RAM A.@2.25 sportingbet

Usually I don't like to bet on doubles but this time, I've found something more than interesting. At all bookmakers, Erlich/Ram are favourites, but sporginbet sees them as underdogs. I reckon this won't be an easy game, but Erlich/Ram are very experienced playing doubles, and have built over the years some realy good game relations. They have a semifinal in 2008 at Adelaide together , and a lot of other good performances in the past. Santoro is excellent at the net, but Giquel has only the serve as a skill, and should have problems.
ERLICH J./RAM A did not even lost a set until now, while Santoro\Gicquel had a though game in the second round agasint Lindstsdt Nieminen.
The odds are great.

Roger Federer - James Blake

Roger Federer - James Blake :Will Roger Federer (SUI) serve more than 20 aces? NO@1.79

Very nice bet , involving Federer and Blake. I've made a little research work and found something interesting. Even though Federer leads 7-0 the head to head record, and lost only one set from 19 played, he never served more than 11 aces in a match agasint Blake.Federer served an average of 7.5 aces per match , in 3 out of 5 sets, with Blake. Without doubt , Federer will have an easy match against Blake, and even if Blake manages to get one set, the margin will be enough. This is more a statistical bet, but even if we take into consideration the last matches, Federer served only 68 aces in 4 games, including a 5set thriller against Tipsarevic.Let's take a look of the serve statistics for Federer so far: 11 against Berdych,11 against Hartfield and 39 agaisnt Tipsarevic!!!!But Tipsarevic can't even be said to be a decent returner.
Blake faced 6 aces from Cilic,4 from Grosjean,2 from Russel and 6 from Massu.
I have big confidence in this, going maximum stake.

J W Tsonga - Richard Gasquet

J W Tsonga - Richard Gasquet :Tsonga +4.5 game handicap @1.85 gamebookers

Tsonga is given 4.5 games advantage in a 60/40 encounter. The way I see it this could go either way. Tsonga ealily won agasint Murray and Garcia Lopez , while Gasquet had some problems , even loosing a set to a top 230+ player in the first round. Tsonga progressed a lot since his comeback , managing to win important games against important players. H2h is 2-1 for Gasquet , last game lost by Tsonga 7-5 7-6, with Tsonga winning 6-4 6-4 their 2nd encounter. Gasquet is a perfect all around player , good forehand , backhand , service and good play from the baseline, but even though , I expect Tsonga to keep it close and even win . Tie-breaks are expected which could help keeping the handicap advantage.

Fernando Gonzalez - Marin Cilic

Fernando Gonzalez - Marin Cilic :Gonzalez -2.5 game handicap@1.83 sportingbet

I'll start by saying the handicap is 4.5 at the other bookmakers. Even I opposed Cilic 2 times before , and was wrong , I feel 3rd time will be with more luck. Yes Cilic had a great run, but he only defeated Almagro and Melzer , can't realy say he had an extraordinary result . Gonzalez has the better forehand, better service , and only needs consistency to defeat the young Cilic. Had a slow start against Lee , but came back in the game and won 3-1. Fernando had a bad start, loosing to Safin and Baghdatis at Kooyong .Cilic hasn't won a single match agaisnt top 10 players in his hole career (well he did , but against Davydenko , but it was a scandal about those games, the main ideea being Davy hadn't played at his best).
I expekt Cilic to maybe win a set, but the experience of Gonzalez should prevail .

Thomas Berdych -Oscar Hernadez

Thomas Berdych -Oscar Hernadez under 28.5 games @1.91 paddy power

No way Hernadez will make Berdych problems. I can't even figure out how did he manage to defeat Minar . His game is one of the weakest I've ever seen on hard, and even on clay he still is mediocre. Berdych on the other hand had a couple of games this year, and has performed well. They have met one time before , on clay, when Hernandez managed to get a set in the tiebreak. But this happened in 2004.
Hernandez's last games on hard :he managed to get only for games in each match , agaisnt Ferrer and Kohlshreiber.

Marin Cilic -Jurgen Melzer

Marin Cilic -Jurgen Melzer :Melzer @2.54 betfair

Cilic is way to overrated because of this succes with Almagro . Yes has a good record on hard and a strong serve , but statistically speaking , he doesn't cope well with left hand players. He only managed to defeat Falla and a top 600+ player , as lefties , while he lost all of his other matches. Even though Melzer didn't had any important succes on hard , he likes playing agaisnt big servers , being 26-9 in his carrer against players rated as "big servers" .This will not be easy , but I expect Melzer to keep close.

Augustin Calleri -Stefan Koubek

Augustin Calleri -Stefan Koubek :Calleri @1.91 pinnacle

Their last game will always remain in my head as one of the most incredible tennis matches I have ever saw . Calleri had 6-0 5-1 and served for the match , and then lost 6-0 5-7 6-7...incredible I must say . Calleri has the better serve, is the better player from the back of the court, has the better return. His only problem will be staying focused, and if it's the case , not to give up being a set behind. Koubek will have more problems than with Moya as I rate Calleri a better player in this moment as Moya , if and only if , it's a normal day for him , not a "Calleri special day" .
Probably a thriller, but hope Calleri will have the edge.

Olivier Rochus -Sam Querrey :Rochus@2.03 pinnacle

Rochus had a bad period last year, but managed to get past it, and seemed to be on the right track by the end of the season, final at Mumbai , won Orleans challenger, both on hard court. Queery had a good performance last year here, reaching 3rd round, defeating Serra and Acasuso ,but since the middle of the season hasn't showed anything special. His game is based on his strong service , but he has a lot of periods when he lacks focus, and it is enough to loose serve. Lost against poor Mayer last week , in 2 sets.Rochus has some experience here , even has a 4th round in 2005.

Will he hard, but I give Rochus the edge to win this @2.03 pinnacle

Nicholas Almagro - Marin Cilic

Nicholas Almagro - Marin Cilic :Almagro @1.93 pinnacle

Cilic is clearly talented , but lacks experience . Has played only 6 games of 3 sets, loosing all 4 last season . Had a good run in the last weeks , defeating Mahut and Haase , and lost in 2 sets in front of the future winner at Auckland. Has a powerfull serve , and decent forehand.
Almagro on the other hand, even if likes more clay, had decent results, even a third round at the Us open and a quater final at Cincinatti. Powerful serve and great mental strenght. Surely more experienced , and surely the better player , Almagro should win with Cilic winning a set though.

Fabrice Santoro -John Isner :Santoro @1.50 stanjames

Santoro is 20-9 against big servers since 2000 and 5-0 last season !!.He likes playing them and will cause big problems on return. Isner is very similar to Karlovic, very poor return game , and will have dificulties serving well the whole match. Santoro only needs one moment of neatention on return to win the set. Isner could win a set though , probably in a tiebreak , but the variety of Santoro's game , along with his great mobility around court should be to much for the 106 kg and 2m+ young Isner.

Jose Acasuso -Nicolas Mahut :Acasuso@2.16 pinnacle

A lot of matches in the first round at the Australian Open , but not so pleased by the odds offered by the bookmakers. Both Acasuso and Mahut had started badly the new season, but I trust Acasuso to have the edge in this game . Has a powerful service and a mindblowing forehand, hitting a lot of winners. Mahut on the other hand is more traditional, enjoying service volley play, but still making a lot of unfforced errors.Already met one time in 2006 , Acasuso winning the first set 7-5 , but Mahut withdraw in the second. Mahut doesn't have a good history here at the Australian Open loosing 6 of his 8 mathes here over the time.Mahut is 4-11 on hard last season , while Acasuso is 6-7. Acasuso has a good tie break record on this surface , 5-2 last season. This could be a close match, a long one, but I trust Acasuso to win in the end.

Florent Serra - Florian Mayer : Serra @2.30 sportingbet

Great odds for Serra, as Mayer is the favourite just because he had a good last week , defeating Chela and Querrey. h2h is 2-1 for Serra , but all matches were played on clay. I saw their 2006 match , at Bucharest, and Serra clearly dominated winning 6-3 7-6. Even though both like more playing on clay, they can be classified as decent hard court players. Mayer allowed 10 break points in his last match , winning only 61% of his first serve points. Serra will have something to say about this and will take advantage of his weak second serve. This is a 50-50 match and I choose the more constant player in 2007 , and in my opinion the more talented.

Juan Monaco - Philip Kohlschreiber

Juan Monaco - Philip Kohlschreiber : Monaco 2-0@3 ladbrokes

From the start I should say that those of you who seek to be more safe, should choose Monaco simple victory. I did not see tonight's match , but I observed them through the week .
The surface seems to be rather slow for normal hard court , which is in Monaco's advantage . Even if the had a demanding match against Llondra, who's service made him a lot of problems , today's game suits his style of play .Philip does not have a great service, not like Llondra , and still is to inconstant. Lost a set against Cilic , and faced 5 break points agaisnt Mayer and another 5 against Russel. Some say fitness could be a factor here, but Monaco is , from my poit of view one of the fittest players on tour, with a great disponibility for effort. The key of taday's match is his first serve percentage, needing more than tonight's 60% .Philip 's serve will give plenty of break opportunities , and he will eventually take advantaje.

This pick is a little bit courageous, and I encourage you to play only the simple victory to be more precautious
. Hope for another Kitzbuhel 2 set victory, and the odds please me , so I choose

Dimitry Tursunov -Sebastian Grosjean

Dimitry Tursunov -Sebastian Grosjean :Tursunov 2-0@2.50 sportingbet

A normal bet on Tursunov to win should be more safe, but the odds offered from sportingbet are pleasing me , since bet365 for example offer only 2.1 .Tursunov is playing better and better, saw him last week against Davydenko , was strong at service , but did not manage to concentrate enough at the big points.
Defeated Gasquet in 3 sets, and hot Wawrinka in 2 6-3 sets.
Grosjean , at 29 years , is getting only mediocre results lately . Lost to Spadea last week , and lost a set to Luczak. Despite this he managed an impressive win against Verdasco . Interesting is the fact that he was here in the qualies , but withdraw from his game , because he was first on the alternate list.
Have met 2 times before, one win for each , the most recent one for Tursunov
4-6 6-4 6-3 on hard in 2006. Tursunov should prouve to be to powerfull for Grosjean , and should easyly win. For those of you more cautious the 1.67 for Tursunov 'swin should be enough.

Juan Monaco - Michael Llodra

Juan Monaco - Michael Llodra :Monaco -1 game handicap @1.83 sportingbet

I will continue to bet against Llodra because I think he is overestimated. Followed yesterday's match against Lee and he was very solid on serve in the first set, but not special at all in the second. At 4-4 and 30-0 Lee lost 3 points in a row and finished the game with a double fault , giving the victory to Llodra.
An interesting observation is that Llodra has withdrawn from the doubles match with a shoulder injury. This could be true , or could be only a strategy to stay away from unnecesarry effort.
Monaco has done well in the past against left hand players , being 8-2 last season. Also he showed great form against Johansson , winning in two easy sets.
Both had 2 games last night, with Monaco staying only 2 hours and 15 minutes on the field.
Monaco has impressed me last season on hard against Djokovic , showing a lot a of improvement, and although he is still considered being a better clay player, has rised his game a lot on this surface.

I will go against the player with 9 games in the last 7 days, and choose Monaco to win with -1 game handicap @1.83 at sportingbet

Andy Murray -Marat Safin

Andy Murray -Marat Safin : Murray 2-0@1.75 centrebet

Not much to say about Safin in the last years, he has become a top 50 almost mediocre player. Murray on the other hand is rising his potential year by year, and I predict he will finish in to 8 this season. Had an injury last season that kept him away for 2 months , but has completely recovered and is now ready to win. Watched his game against hot Wawrinka 3 days ago and he was great. His service was always strong, always there when he needed it.Andy showed he has grown up in the last period and seems to think better every ball.He always waited for Stan's mistake and always knew how to transform defensive into offensive.Has a great forehand but still makes a lot of unfforced errors.
This tournament is only demonstrative , but Murray always performed well in this type or tournaments, even defeating Murray last year here, in two sets.
Don't know how Safin prepared for the new season , but I think he doesn't stand a chance in front of the rising star Murray.

Michael Llondra - Hyung Taik Lee

Michael Llondra - Hyung Taik Lee : Lee@2 sportingbet

Odds changed for this game since yesterday , Llondra being now considered the favourite. I think he is a little bit overrated , since his Adelaide victory means only a great win against Nieminen, and a win agasint Simon. He deserves his merit , but I still think the odds are set to low for him , putting to much importance to his late succes.
Lee has done a great job in the past agaisnt service volley players like Llondra, and has also a positive record agasint left hand players on hard court. I always appreciated Lee because we is hard working and never gives up. Has a strong service , and is decent in long rallies.
They have mever met again.

Carlos Moya - Stefan Koubek

Carlos Moya - Stefan Koubek :Koubek +3.5 game handicap @1.85 gamebookers

Moya had an extremely demanding game against Nadal 2 days ago 7-6 6-7 6-7 , and this could be a disadvantage on this side. It's true he had 3 match points agaisnt the allmighty Nadal , but he proved "broken " against Youzhny loosing 6-0 6-1.
Koubek lost in two sets against Ljubicic last week, in the first round , and had plenty of time to recover and prepare this game.

They have met 6 times, 3-3 head to head score, with the last 2 meetings won by Koubek , both of hard court.Even though he has a good overall record against lefties 33-17, he was 1-3 last season, defeating only Verdasco one time.

Moya lost one set last week against Koudriavtsev , who isn't even in top 250.
I think the almost 4 hours encounter agaisnt Nadal , along with his age shoud give Koubek the advantage.

Mardy Fish -Gilles Simon

Mardy Fish - Gilles Simon :Fish 2-0@ 2.50 stanjames

First pick from Sydney. We have Fish , who's game is very well suited to hard, and Simon who can be described as a claycourter.

Fish already played 4 single games this season at Hopman, only loosing hard to Djokovic in a 3 set thriller
6-2 6-7(4) 7-6(4) .Is 15-9 on hard courts last season , and 6-3 here at Sydney. Has a a trong service , that helps him win easy points, and should make the difference.

Simon lost in the first round at Adelaide 7-3 6-3 in front of Llondra . Only managed to reach the second round at a tournament on hard court 2 times in this last 10 tournaments he participated in.He is 7-9 on hard court last season. His poor performances on hard courts are comming from the fact that he has a weak service , his game beeing more suited for clay where he is more solid from the baseline, and is strong in long rallies.

If everything goes normal , Fish should win easily, only being concerned if he will drop a set.
The odds are very good, so I choose

Stanislas Wawrinka - Ivan Ljubicic

Stanislas Wawrinka - Ivan Ljubicic:Wawrinka@2.2 sportingbet

Ljubicic is on the right track to exit top 20 this year if he continues playing like he did in the second part of the 2007 season . The serve that helped him winning so many cheep points , and gave him the edge in so many encounters seems not to function at the same level anymore. Had a 68% on his first serve in front of Philipp Kohlschreiber, and gave him 6 break points opportunities. The difference was made on the second serve where Kohlschreiber only managed to win 39% of the points .

Wawrinka on the other hand reached 87% first serve points won , and 75% on his second serve against Calleri , defeating him 6-3 6-0. He seems to be progressing from match to match, has great serving abilities and an extraordinary backhand.

Even if Doha is one of Ljubicic's favourite tournaments, reaching the finals here 3 times in the last year, even if hed to head record is 3-0 for Ljubicic , I rate this as a 50-50 match , and I give the edge to Wawrinaka
